“ I’ll Start Saving Tomorrow ”… Yeah, Right!

People always say they’ll do things tomorrow: they’ll start exercising tomorrow, they’ll go back to school tomorrow, and they’ll start saving… when… that’s right, tomorrow! Perhaps this is because the sun will come up tomorrow?

Financial ProcrastinationA lot of people want to save, that much is true, but equally lots find ways and excuses not to do it immediately. There are more pressing bills to pay, more stuff to buy, more places to go to. And always, they’ll say that they will really, really start saving tomorrow.

Why do they want to save, anyway? It’s because they want to have a little security that when emergencies happen, they will have some funds to pay for whatever is needed for that emergency.

Or perhaps it’s not an emergency they are preparing for but retirement. When one retires, obviously they won’t have a steady source of income, but they’d still want to be able to go around and afford their needs. The truth is, we can never really tell what will happen tomorrow, if we will still have the same stable job we have today, or if there won’t be a more urgent item to attend to that will limit us from saving.

Saving enough should be done at the soonest possible time, so that you can be prepared for anything. When you think about it, is that gorgeous dress more important than saving for your kid’s university tuition?

So start heeding Ronan Keating’s advice, and do what your heart yearns for now so that if tomorrow never comes you won’t have any regrets.
