Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

Yes, that was my advice to a friend who just hated herself for not being pretty, smart and thin enough compare to other people around her. I know pessimism is the culprit and being surrounded by negative people doesn’t help as well.

I remember a phrase that once quoted by Sophia Loren that goes ” Beauty is how you feel inside. It reflects in your eyes. It is not something purely physical. Perhaps, this sounds like a stereotype expression, but it holds true to its meaning. I often remind myself all the time that, in fact, I put on post it notes all over the house.

Some people might be fed up of becoming inferior to the world. That may be GOOD, but looking for the favorable things that you’ve experienced could help. Tend not to invest some time stressing regarding how you compare with other individuals on this planet, give attention to allowing you to feel better about oneself. Everybody is a wonderful person.

There isn’t any one else on this earth very much like you — that all alone is actually astounding. We are unique individuals from the eyes of our Creator, and we’ve got gifts to offer the entire world! So free yourself of the emotions involving inadequacy and allow oneself permission to believe it.

Spend Your Time Wisely

Some people seem to have more than twenty-four hours in a day with the many things they are able to accomplish. For example, my neighbor prepares her kids for school, drives them to school on her way to work, picks them up before going home, cook dinner, teaches voice lessons in the evenings, and now I learned she is training for a triathlon while organizing her sister’s wedding who’s abroad. Wow! How is she able to do all these? My daily routine is composed of going to and from the office, and I barely have the energy to cook dinner. Is something terribly wrong with me?

balancing lifeOver coffee, I just had to ask her, and I soon deduced that the key to accomplishing a lot of things is to manage my time wisely. We each plotted our daily activities and I find out that I spend a lot of time doing nothing, or at least, nothing productive.

My neighbor barely has idle time on her hands, but she makes sure that she has certain rest times during the day. She also told me that she doesn’t procrastinate – if there is something to be done, she does it immediately so that the chores don’t pile up. She’s also shied away from certain things, like gaming, watching entertainment shows and the like, but she said that it’s a small sacrifice to make compared to all that she’s accomplished.

In the end, it’s all about making the choice. So now I know better than to spend my time whining. Instead, I will start hitting the gym, something I should have done last week.

Does Your Job Really Stink, or Is It You?

There are times when we just can’t seem to stand our jobs: we hate our co-workers, we hate our boss, we even hate the painting on the wall of the reception! When this happens, is it time to move out or is there something more complex that is the root of all the negative energy?

love your jobIn these times when the economy is not at its tiptop shape, we all need to be very careful about leaving a current job, as it may not be so easy to get a new one. We’ve all heard about the many layoffs around us, and we’ve seen it happen to many people we know. Some are of sterling qualifications. Some are of executive level, and still, they were not immune to layoffs. Because of this, having a job is really a blessing which we all need to take care of.

When bad days such as the one I described happen, you should strive hard to analyze the real cause of the problem. It may not be your co-worker or your boss, who is unreasonable, but perhaps, it is you who are getting difficult and annoying. Perhaps there is something bothering you at home, or you’ve had a rough day with your spouse or with a neighbor? When this happens, try not to bring your troubles to the office and remember that you each has your own worries.

If you feel in a foul mood, then try to avoid being in a group or in a conversation by making yourself totally immersed in work. Try to lift your spirits by doing something that will cheer you up like a good cup of coffee with a friend, or having that nice Chinese dish for lunch. Remember, it is most advisable to make the workplace a pleasant space. After all, you spend half of your waking hours in that space.
