Are Humans Becoming Obsolete?

As an effect of the advancements made in technology, more and more jobs are being automated, in the process making it more efficient for business to invest on computers than on people. There are a lot of jobs that are directly and indirectly done better by computers, and this will invariably result to layoffs and unemployment.

jobs replace by computerFor example, snail mail is almost never used by anyone, because nowadays people can connect through emails, social networkings and the like. Photographs which used to accompany letters in the past are instead posted on Facebook, and friends keep each other posted by status updates. No doubt the mailman is not happy about this, and he is just one of the many casualties of technology.

Bank tellers are also similarly threatened because banking nowadays is seldom made through a land-based transaction. You just cannot blame customers when they prefer to bank at nighttime after work while watching the television and wearing pajamas, instead of driving over to the bank during a lunch break.

Cashiers and checkers, for example, are not as in demand as in the last decade, simply because there are computers that allow for shoppers to make their own purchase, had it checked and pay, without having to face another human being. Online shopping stores do not necessarily help the plight of the cashier/checker.

But, in the end, computers can only process information given to them. Humans will still be valuable because the humans command these computers. So make yourself computer-friendly and understand their ins and outs, rather than just plain hate them.
