A lot of things happen in the office, and it is inevitable that you sometimes get emotional – you are human, after all. When you have worked so hard for a presentation, only to be told that you have not done enough staff work – that will definitely be something to be upset about.
This and similar other case can make anyone upset, including you, but it should not be an excuse for you to let the water work to go at the office.
Crying in the office is often perceived as being unprofessional, and this is certainly something you don’t want to be branded of. Because of this alone, you need to be able to control emotions at work, at least enough to get you through the day without breaking down and making a scene.
A common trick is to distract yourself and to think of happy thoughts. If this is not effective, physically distract yourself by doing something, and not think about it. You can go outside if you can, or if you can’t, you can strike a conversation with someone who is totally remote from the conversation.
Give yourself a little boost by having your favorite cup of coffee or treating yourself to a dessert. Food can bring about certain pleasures, or if you would rather window shop, do so during lunch hour.
It doesn’t mean that you have to be impassive. You just need to hold yourself together until you are outside the confines of the office. Once you are with your partner, or your friend, you can definitely let the tears flood on, and really give out a good cry.
